Information sent on behalf of Lincolnshire Police

Can we ask that shops in the Lincolnshire region be cautious when accepting £20 notes.

Three shops in the Lincoln city area have been targeted over the last couple of days.

A pattern seems to be emerging of an older man making conversation and buying something small and gets change.  Then a boy walks in and does the same and then two more males come in all buying small items to get the change.  All with an Irish accent.

Staff should not rely on detection pens as these did reveal the fake notes in the Lincoln shops.

If staff members can feel no raise on the Bank of England at the top of the £20 note and it feels flat then it is more likely to be a fake.

Please report any suspicious circumstances on Tel: 101.
